Greta, founder of Meralune

Interview

In conversation with Meralune

Meralune comes from a need its founder knew intimately: sleepwear for the nights when rest is hardest to find. Made in France from European linen, the pieces breathe and feel cool against the skin, yet they were never meant to read as purely functional. They are feminine and quiet, the kind you actually want to put on. We selected Meralune for that rare balance of real comfort and real beauty, and for the transparency behind it, every piece made by people its founder Greta knows by name. Here, Greta talks about rest, rituals, and the nightgown that started it all.

What's the story behind Meralune?

Meralune was born from my own experience. I suffered from severe night sweats during chemotherapy, and years later they returned with menopause. I wanted to create the kind of sleepwear I had been looking for myself: something breathable, natural and comfortable that would make those difficult nights a little easier.

What's non-negotiable in how you design and make your pieces?

For me, it comes down to comfort, purpose and knowing how your pieces are made. We use one hundred percent European linen because it is naturally breathable and it feels good, cool against the skin. But I also wanted Meralune to feel beautiful and feminine, never like functional sleepwear.

All our pieces are made in France, and we personally know our manufacturers. We have visited their workplaces. We know the people designing and making our sleepwear, and that transparency is very important to me.

What's the one thing you want people to know about Meralune?

The one thing I'd like people to know is that what you wear to bed can really make a difference to how comfortable you feel at night. With Meralune, it's about fabric and design that work with your body and support you when sleep doesn't come easily.

What does rest mean to you?

For me, rest is really about giving yourself permission to slow down, switch off and recharge. That isn't always easy when life is busy. And as we age, a good night's sleep can't be taken for granted. But when you sleep well, the next morning feels a little easier. You have more energy, you think more clearly. So for me, rest is really about taking care of yourself.

And in practice, what do your mornings and evenings look like? Do you have any rituals?

I'm an early riser, and I love quiet mornings with a cup of coffee, just a little time to myself before the day starts.

In the evening, I start slowing down about an hour before going to bed. I take a shower, put on my sleepwear, dim the lights and put my phone away. Once I'm in bed, I write down a few things for the next day so they're completely out of my head. Then I read a novel until I feel sleepy, and I turn off the lights.

Which piece in your collection do you always come back to, and why?

That would be our Ariane nightgown. It really was the starting point for Meralune, and it took six prototypes before we got it right. For me, it represents the brand very well. It's simple, it's feminine, and above all it's very comfortable.
