In conversation with lavie

lavie began with a simple idea: home textiles that feel like they have always been yours. Founded by Oliver alongside designer Cornelia Stahl, the brand draws on more than thirty years in textiles and a refusal to work with anything ordinary. We selected lavie for its quiet obsession with fabric, its transparency, and pieces made to soften rather than wear out. Here, Oliver talks about rest, rituals, and the bed linen he can no longer sleep without.

What's the story behind lavie?

Nearly ten years ago, I founded lavie together with the designer Cornelia Stahl. We started with a linen collection made in Portugal, with one of our long-standing supplier partners. By that point we already had more than 30 years of experience in textiles, with a strong network of partners in Portugal and Turkey. What was missing was a brand of our own, one where we could follow our own values and our own sense of what home textiles should look and feel like.

The idea was simple: everyday pieces, textiles for life, which is where the name lavie comes from, that are timeless and quietly beautiful. We paid special attention to how our fabrics feel from the very start. We wanted our bedding to feel like the favourite piece you've had forever, the one that's only grown softer and cosier with time. Today that's grown into a wide range of home textiles and homewear, so you can surround yourself with lavie throughout your daily routines.

What's non-negotiable in how you design and make your pieces?

A timeless look and a cosy feeling, always. We put a special focus on our fabrics. We never use standard fabrics off the shelf. We work to improve them until they're truly unique and feel exactly the way we want them to. Beyond that, transparency in our supply chain and responsible production aren't optional for us. They're the baseline.

What's the one thing you want people to know about lavie?

We want to make textiles that bring real joy and comfort into everyday life, things you feel genuinely at home in. We're textile enthusiasts at heart, and we love working with innovative fabrics. But probably the most important thing is that we're our own harshest critics. We only make what we'd actually buy for ourselves.

What does rest mean to you?

Rest means easing my mind: being with my family and friends, getting out into nature, and of course a good night's sleep. Without that, every day turns into stress.

And in practice, what do your mornings and evenings look like? Do you have any rituals?

I start my day with green tea and try to close it with a quick yoga session, or with a drink and a good talk with my partner or friends. In reality, though, I often end up falling asleep myself while putting my kids to bed.

Which piece in your collection do you always come back to, and why?

The Bananatex bed linen. I remember trying the first prototype in June 2025. I haven't used anything else in my bed since.
